Is neumind Suitable for My Client?
We understand that insight into difficulties, engagement with rehabilitation strategies, and cognitive ability vary between individuals in neuro-rehabilitation and evolve over time during recovery. For this reason, we designed neumind to be adaptable to the person’s ability to engage with the app.
Self-Management (independent users)
Neumind can be used as a platform for individuals to self-manage and/or co-manage their difficulties in collaboration with clinicians and family members or informal caregivers. Through the app, users can:
- Set and receive reminders and nudges.
- Track outcomes over time.
- Keep a journal.
- Access neuro-educational resources.
Prompting Only (more supported users)
For people less likely to engage with the app for self-management, Neumind can function as a tool where clinicians and caregivers manage all content. The individual then receives prompts and information without needing to actively interact with the app.
Increasing Engagement Over Time
As neumind is highly adaptable, individuals can start with passive interaction, such as receiving information and prompts. Over time, they can be encouraged to use the app more proactively for self-management and to reinforce rehabilitation strategies.
_______________
Features and Who They May Be Useful For
We aim to make Neumind suitable for a broad range of individuals requiring neuro-rehabilitation by offering features tailored to diverse needs.
Reminders
Reminders help individuals with brain injury compensate for memory difficulties by providing timely prompts to complete tasks. INCOG guidelines highlight the importance of external memory aids as a primary strategy in supporting independence and daily functioning for people with prospective memory difficulties. With Neumind, users can set personalised reminders for appointments, medications, and daily activities, reducing cognitive load and improving task completion.
Nudges
Nudges provide gentle prompts to encourage users to stay on track with their rehabilitation goals. These are especially helpful for individuals with difficulty initiating tasks but who are otherwise motivated in their rehabilitation. Nudges subtly reinforce routines and strategies, helping users build positive habits.
Neuro-Education Resources
Having all resources in one place simplifies access for both clients and clinicians. Neumind allows clinicians to:
- Easily send resources to one or multiple clients.
- Manage and update resources across clients.
- Access resources shared by team members or collaborating practitioners.
- Ensure that caregivers and family members linked to the client’s app stay informed about rehabilitation.
Journals & Trackers
Journaling fosters self-reflection and emotional processing, areas often impacted by brain injury. Structured journaling supports emotional regulation and cognitive awareness. Neumind’s journaling feature includes prompts and templates, enabling regular reflection and tracking of thoughts and experiences.
Trackers
Tracking progress motivates individuals and highlights areas needing attention. Visualising achievements increases engagement and self-efficacy. Neumind provides intuitive tools for monitoring rehabilitation milestones over time, benefiting both users and clinicians.
Routines
Structured routines reduce cognitive effort and promote consistency. INCOG guidelines advocate routines as key compensatory strategies for individuals with cognitive impairments. Neumind supports users in building and maintaining personalised routines to enhance daily functioning and independence.
Plans
Effective task planning addresses executive functioning challenges by breaking tasks into manageable steps. Research indicates that structured planning tools increase the likelihood of goal achievement. Neumind’s planning feature offers visual checklists and progress tracking to support task execution.
Collaboration and Goal Management
Goal Integration (Upcoming Feature)
Although Neumind already supports goal tracking through related features, we plan to expand its capabilities to include explicit goal-setting and monitoring. This will enable clinicians and clients to create, share, and track goals directly within the app, aligning all efforts toward measurable rehabilitation progress.
Shared Resources and Collaboration
Neumind facilitates team collaboration by allowing clinicians and practitioners:
- To access a centralised platform for all client resources
- To manage and update resources and strategies across multiple clients
- To see shared resources and strategies among team members and collaborating practitioners
_______________
Is neumind suitable for my client?
We understand that insight into difficulties, engagement with rehabilitation strategies and cognitive ability vary between people in neuro-rehabilitation, and over time for individuals as the recover. For this reason we made neumind to be adaptable to the person’s ability to engage with the app.
Self-management: nNeumind can be used as a place for individuals to self-manage and/or co-manage their difficulties along with clinicians and family members/informal caregivers. They can set and receive reminders and nudges, track outcomes over time, keep a journal, and receive neuro-educational resources.
Messaging/prompting only: For people who are assessed to be less likely to engage with the app to self-manage, neumind can be entirely added to by the clinician and/or a family member or caregiver. This way the person receives prompts and information from neumind only.
Increasing engagement over time: Since the use of neumind is adaptable, people could start out receiving information and prompts from others linked to their app. Then, over time, they may be encouraged to use neumind more pre-actively for self-management and to reinforce strategies.
Features and who they may be useful for:
We want neumind to be useful for the majority of people who require neuro-rehabilitation. So we developed multiple features that can be chosen depending on the needs of the client.
Reminders
Reminders help individuals with brain injury compensate for memory difficulties by providing timely prompts to complete tasks. INCOG guidelines highlight the importance of external memory aids as a primary strategy in supporting independence and daily functioning for people with prospective memory difficulties. The nNeumind app allows users to set personalised reminders for appointments, medications, and daily activities, reducing cognitive load and improving task completion.
Nudges
Nudges provide gentle prompts to encourage users to stay on track with their rehabilitation goals. These have been found to be particularly helpful for people who have difficulty with initiation but who are otherwise motivated in their rehabilitation. They serve as subtle reinforcements to engage with routines and strategies, helping users build positive habits. Nudges can be helpful for individuals who require additional motivation and support to stay engaged in their daily tasks.
Neuro-Education Resources
Access to reliable information is crucial for understanding brain injury and its management. Neumind allows clinicians to easily send resources to one or multiple clients, and access resources shared by other members of your team. Resources can also be accessed by carers linked to the client’s app helping keep family members or informal caregivers in the loop with rehabilitation.
Journals
Journaling can enhance self-reflection and emotional processing, which are often impacted by brain injury. Studies indicate that structured journaling supports emotional regulation and cognitive awareness. Neumind's journaling feature offers prompts and templates to facilitate regular reflection and tracking of thoughts and experiences.
Trackers
Tracking progress helps individuals stay motivated and identify areas needing further attention. Research shows that visualising achievements increases engagement and self-efficacy. Neumind provides intuitive progress tracking tools that allow users and clinicians to monitor rehabilitation milestones over time.
Routines
Establishing routines supports individuals with cognitive impairments by promoting consistency and reducing cognitive effort. INCOG guidelines recommend structured routines as a key compensatory strategy. Neumind helps users build and maintain personalised routines to enhance daily functioning and independence.
Plans
Effective task planning is crucial for individuals with executive functioning challenges. Evidence suggests that structured planning tools help break tasks into manageable steps, increasing the likelihood of goal achievement. Neumind's planning feature provides visual checklists and progress tracking to support structured execution of daily routines.
